Week 7

Simulations
The screen reader simulation reads words on the screen.  This can help people that have a hard time reading small text or staring at a computer screen for an extended amount of time.  The low vision simulator helps people with poor vision see the screen.  The poor vision can be caused by several different diseases.  This is useful for viewing graphics and navigating.  The distractibility simulator showed what it is like to have a cognitive disorder. Some people are easily overwhelmed on websites.

Navigation
Navigation is essential to any website.  These simulations prove that navigation should be simple, easy to read, and easy to find.  Designers should always implement these rules to make their work more accessible.  One option for more complex, flash-based websites it to make a simple version of the website for people with a disability.

My Website
I would keep my website the same.  I planned on it being very simple with few aspects to it.  It would have little to no text, so a text reader could easily work on it.  The navigation is very simple and does not have very many buttons.

Usability v Accessibility
Usability is the ability to provide a good or service.  This include the amount of things that you can do on a website.  Accessibility is the quality of being at hand when needed.  This means that content is easy to get to and understand.  Both of these are essential to a successful website.

Week 6

The navigation will be above the title of the page.  It will be very simple.  It will have three different states (shown above).  This will be a very small website, and there will be no need for breadcrumb navigation.  Some of the pages might be broken down, but that is very unlikely.  I would add a drop down to go to the different sections of each page if I broke them down.

Background

Week 5

There will be one graphic on each side.  They will each be from the same picture.  The image will be in RGB format because it is more compatible.  The overall color feel will be warm.  I intend to have some orange in the image.  The image will span across the background so it will have to be large.  I would like the image to be at least 1024x768.  There will be no animation on the graphics.  It would be too distracting.  There will be no interactivity with the background.  It will have a smooth gradient on the edges.  I would like it to be a Jpeg or a Bitmap image.  The image would be 72 dpi.  There will be some flash implemented on the navigation, but there will be very few other graphics.  All of the bordering features will match the background.  The graphic will be slightly visible in the background of the body.
